This is a recording of a talk I gave during the final session of an Advent Retreat in Daily Living I offered at the University of St. Thomas School of Law. My final talk had the goal of helping us to focus on what gift we will offer the Christ child as we kneel before the creche on Christmas morning. To do that, I used the Van Dyke story, The Story of the Other Wise Man. The presentation is part summary, part reading of a story that I re-read each Christmas.

This podcast is drawn from a reflection on John the Baptist that I gave at an Advent communion service for the elderly and homebound using the Gospel for the Second Sunday of Advent. The talk focuses first on what is special about John and then on his message, which is as applicable to us as we prepare for Christ's coming today as it was for the people John spoke to before the birth of Christ. The length of the podcast is 10:24.

This is a recording of the talk I gave on Julian of Norwich at the weekly meeting of our Fall Retreat in Daily Living earlier today. (The recording runs for 19 minutes.) This was my first effort at using a new digital recorder as I was making a presentation and I probably had the microphone too close, so the sound is a little tinny. At some point, I'll replace this with a newly recorded version of the talk. |
